FACIAL RECOGNITION

CBS KILKENNY SCHOOL, IRELAND – In January 2020 a parent rang the Irish Council for Civil Liberties (ICCL) regarding the secondary school their child was attending. It had come to the parent’s attention that the school, CBS Kilkenny, were planning on piloting a facial recognition system for registration.

Upon public knowledge of the facial recognition system potentially being implemented the school immediately put the plans on hold.

Concerns are held by the ICCL that the company involved is large and may be marketing ‘aggressively’ at schools to take this technology.

A Freedom of Information request was sent the the Dept of Education and Skills on 24th January 2020.
